Imagine, you go to your local park and meet up with a group of like minded people. You relax, let yourself go and push yourself out of your comfort zone in a fitness class. You get motivated by the best instructors with no false pretence, who give no false promises, there are no gimmicks and no machines. Its hard work, lots of sweat, you have a giggle, you get real results and you feel great. In the process you bond as a group, get really fit and have fun. Everyone meets up socially on a regular basis and the instructors give you an award for getting fitter and the improvement cycle continues. From this a sense of community and belonging emerges.

After leaving the military and doing the university thing, I dropped into a corporate slot in senior management and became a statistic. I got to travel and the money was good, but always got bored quickly. I never got to grips with the in house politics and game playing of some of the muppet's I came across. Neither the 'make a profit whatever it takes mentality' and the complete disregard for customers. Over a period of time, I began to despise my office existence and dreamt of being my own boss and running my own organisation.
Alongside this daydream, comes the passion for fitness, the feeling of getting stronger, faster, fitter, the post exercise rush, achievement, winning, self confidence and the buzz. Sharing your knowledge and passion, instructing and motivating others. These are some of the best feelings I am fortunate enough to experience on a daily basis. I have always held the belief that we follow a path, and the people we meet, the things we do and the various decisions we make along the way shape our destiny. If we are fortunate enough, positive things happen that alter this path we follow for the better. The catalyst for me, was meeting someone, who in all honesty has had the biggest and most significant impact on my life to date. 'What ever is meant for you in life, won't pass you by', this person told me frequently. I had been following my supposed pre destined path for a number of years, and then I met this someone who turned my whole world upside down. A smile that lights up a room, eyes that draw you in, a heart that seemingly beats for others, warm and endearing, someone you admire and look up to, a mind so sharp that it could cut paper, who speaks so plainly yet with such high intellect with words that have such great meaning, someone who makes you feel fantastic when you are around them, someone who inspires effortlessly and humbly without knowing, transforms people's lives every hour of their working day. Somebody truly exceptional. I have had the privilege of meeting and knowing this exceptional person. Who made me realise a number of things; If you have passion and talent, then use it to your best ability. Believe in yourself and follow your dreams. Smile at everyone, it costs nothing and watch what happens. Just relax and be yourself. To have a friend you have to be a friend and the biggest rewards out there and the best feelings are those that we get when we do things for others. They say you can meet someone for a lifetime, a season or a reason. This I now believe to be true. So a simple message ..... 'To you, I will be eternally in your debt, thank you for finding and releasing me' I followed my dreams and this was the current destination. So, if you really want something and I mean you want it so bad, you will do whatever it takes. Attitude is everything. Steve Richards |
